Splash Hits
A splash hit by definition is a home run hit by a Giants player that reaches McCovey Cove on the fly without bouncing on the Arcade or Portwalk. A home run hit by an opposing team is merely a home run and not considered a splash hit. If a Dodger hits a home run (God forbid) then it should be plucked out of the bay and thrown back over the Arcade wall onto the field to avoid polluting the cove.
Splash Hit Table
This table is a history of splash hits launched into McCovey Cove by San Francisco Giants players. The list was researched and compiled by Dave Edlund and is a work in progress since some of the data points are uncertain. The SF Giants website only presents a video record of splash hits starting at #32 by Barry Bonds on April 12, 2004. This makes it difficult to determine which individual (ball hawk) retrieved each homerun. We need the help of baseball fans to help make the record complete and request that recommended updates be made in the comments section below. We are also compiling a "Trivia" column with interesting facts about the recovery of each splash hit which will be added at a later date.
